Presented by Mr. Jeremy KENAGHAN (CHUV, Lausanne, Head of Development + President IT Security Commission)
Viruses, worms, Trojan horses, adware, spyware, phishing, pharming..

A whole new vocabulary has grown in the world of computer technology as threats become more and more sophisticated.

How to protect our computers from such bugs and from attackers who can infiltrate systems and steal data from afar?

While we are all familiar with “anti-virus software” and “firewalls”, do these really serve as protection and can we turn off our computers at night knowing data is really safe?

Guest Speaker, Jeremy Kenaghan has been involved in computer technology for over 25 years and as a certified Information Systems Security Professional will be with us on October 25th to advise what threats exist today, how new-generation viruses and attackers are evolving and, most importantly, what simple measures we can take to protect ourselves!

: Forum Dinner - Bringing Democracy to International Relations - the role of Parliaments and the Inter-Parliamentary Union
Presented by Mr. Anders B. Johnsson (Inter-Parliamentary Union, Geneva, Secretary General)
Not many people know that the focus of world-wide parliamentary dialogue is the Geneva-based Inter-Parliamentary Union. Probably, even fewer know that the foundation dates back to 1889, which makes it one of the oldest international organisations in the world. Created by a Frenchman and an Englishman - both men of peace, and each one a Nobel Peace Prize winner in his own right - the IPU of modern times is devoted to strengthening democratic institutions around the world. By encouraging high standards of honest and transparent government where parliament represents the will of the people, it has earned an important place, and plays a crucial if somewhat understated role, in global politics.

On Thursday 26th May We shall have the privilege of welcoming Anders Johnsson, Secretary General of the IPU, as our honoured guest. He is an eloquent and knowledgeable speaker deeply committed to the worthy cause of strengthening democracy, and full of interesting anecdotes and memoirs.

: Forum Dinner - "The Barrel at $99?"
Presented by Mr. Conrad Geber (Petro-Logistics, Geneva, President)

Today the world consumes some 30 billion barrels of oil a year. With a 2% annual growth in consumption, the dilemma is where to find the some 6-7% more oil needed to meet this demand? Global oil reserves are steadily being depleted and are possibly much less than some estimates would have us believe. World oil production is said to be dangerously close to peaking, while new discoveries dramatically dwindle, revealing far smaller deposits: for every one barrel found, 4 are consumed.

Will we still be able to quench our thirst for oil in the years to come and at what price?

Guest speaker, Conrad GERBER, head of Petro-Logistics and highly respected in the oil business, collects and analyses the closely-guarded data on the worlds’ supplies of oil to gauge worldwide oil supply and demand. With his ability to influence the world oil market well recognised, we look forward to exploring with him these questions and more.
