Place/Directions: Hotel Beau-Rivage, Nyon

A digital Tsunami over the Internet?

Well, yes.  The volume of black operations grows and grows. The Internet has democratized information and access to the Blogosphere.

Though we have become reliant on the Internet for the provision of financial services, power supply, transport, emergency services, food and heath, all are increasingly susceptible to hacker attack, viruses, worms and band-width clogging.

Digital traffic jams caused the MNBlast worm which contributed to the huge power cuts in New York, Detroit and Toronto some years ago.

Religious fundamentalist hacking activity is rising and becoming more sophisticated. Groups exist from Kashmir to Morocco and from Chechnya to Saudi Arabia. They collaborate with anti-globalist extremists in the West, and others, to target international and domestic on-line assets.

The concept of InfoGuerilla has transformed information into an asymmetric tool of info-war at the disposal of anyone. Identity theft, ‘phishing’ scams and ‘malware’ proliferation increase at an alarming rate.

Frightened? Depressed? Confused? Don’t be. Stéphane Koch, President of the Internet Society (ISOC), Geneva, and, among other things, a Member of the Scientific Board of HES postgraduate studies in Strategic Competitive Intelligence will be our next Business Forum Dinner guest speaker.  Mr. Koch is an acknowledged scholar and practitioner in his field.  We are fortunate to have him as our guest, and for him to share with us his experience of how to manage this new informational environment with greater confidence and efficacy.

Your knowledge and understanding will be in for big boost on June  7th so join us, please.

On-line Reputation at Risk: Illicit Operations of the Net

7th June 2007 Stéphane KOCH and Marco BAIGUINI

Guest Speaker: Stéphane KOCH, President of the Internet Society (ISOC) and Marco BAIGUINI, President Executives International

For many of us in the audience, Stéphane Koch’s fascinating presentation was a journey to that part of the IT/Internet iceberg which stays firmly below the water line.

Though the Internet is such an integral part of our lives, it was salutary to hear of the numerous ways – military, financial, propaganda, medical, commercial and personal - that it can be, and is, open to abuse.

If information is the blood of the company, and perception of security might lull us into a false sense of well-being, then our June Business Forum was a welcome and realistic look at the present, and into the future, for all us.

Many thanks to Stéphane Koch for such an interesting presentation about such a vast and important subject.

                                                                                                    Vice President
